If you plan on driving, we recommend reserving a ferry spot in advance. A $20 reservation fee reserves your spot and allows you to adjust your ferry time up to 1 hour prior to departure. The most direct route to Tofino is by ferrying from Vancouver to Nanaimo via either Tsawwassen or Horseshoe Bay.

By Car

Tofino does have a small airport that you can fly into, however it is usually cheaper to fly into Comox, Nanaimo, or Victoria and rent a car or catch a ride the rest of the way. Flying into Vancouver and ferrying across to the island is also an option.

There are many great options available, especially for larger groups.

  • Most of the beaches in Tofino have compact sand, which makes it perfect for beach cruising. We recommend Chesterman Beach! There is also a cycling path spanning from Tofino all the way to Ucluelet.

  • A short and easy trail approximately 3 km. It’s the closest beach to downtown Tofino and the trail head is less than 1 km from the town centre.

  •  A short 2.6 km hike with stunning views of the area's mountains, ocean, and beaches.

  •  Tofino offers surf for all skill levels. There are group and private lessons available throughout the day at several local surf schools. We recommend the Jordan Zapernick surfing school for totally sick surfers.

  • The waters here are teeming with Coho Salmon, Halibut, Lingcod, and Rockfish—see what you can reel in! But let’s be honest, Em’s already caught the best catch of them all!

  • Head out on a boat to watch the black bears forage for shellfish during low tide or spot some of the local Humpbacks and Orcas cruising by.

  • Roast and relax before taking a dip in the Pacific Ocean!

  • Journey to the area's natural hot spring pools. Accessible by air or sea. Roast and relax in the rocky pools!
